Cinematic wedding photography
Is a phrase we hear often.
A lot of couples are requesting it, but not many are comfortable defining what it means. Let’s get into it.
It’s Darcy walking towards Elizabeth in the field at sunrise.
Often, it’s genuine, documentary, in-between moments.
Commonly these images happen for me when I’m testing my light, looking for a new vantage point or while we’re in transit.
Revisiting photos will feel like reliving a moment that was happening, not reviewing something that was constructed.
It might also mean seeing parts of the image that a stylist would remove. Think dirty plates, clothes left on the floor, aggressive wind, dirt on the dress and bright orange Montreal pylons.
To some, cinematic equates to theatrical, rolling vistas or dramatic lighting.
Details that may have gone unnoticed.
This is often why images with soft focus, dragging shutters, grain, sun flares, and light leaks can actually add to an image. It denotes less time focused on sculpting the scene versus capturing it in real time.
