I've known Jodi since elementary, we'd walk to school in the mornings, our first jobs in high school were together at the hardware and her mom and I would gossip every dentist visit. She'll always be my beautiful spunky friend that grew up a street away! I wouldn't want anyone else shooting her wedding day. Three kids later and buying a home with Ken, here they are! Jodi talks to me about Ken like we're still back in high school, so in love like we're 16 years old, and Ken looks at Jodi like she's the only person in front of him. You can see it yourself in these photos. It's relationship goals.

There's no right way or wrong way to hold your wedding but in my humble opinion Jodi + Ken did their wedding in all the right ways. They held a private ceremony at their home, with their immediate family, 3 children and 2 dogs in attendance. They prepared the barn for the ceremony site, which will soon become their chicken roost, decorated with an illuminated sign which they made themselves. They both dressed in the house and approached the ceremony together with their dogs. Jodi's engagement ring has a blue sapphire and her wedding shoes were cowboy boots. The kids got to watch their parents give their vows, then wandered around the property with us to take pictures. We ate cake and the couple whisked off to their honeymoon in Niagara. Perfect, from start to finish, in every way.

Congratulations J+K!! All of my love!

Sarah + Dave + 1

Today is the absolute perfect time to share Sarah + Dave's maternity shoot, which we did over the (Canadian) Thanksgiving weekend. Last night, they welcomed their little girl into the world! Happy and healthy, dark hair, a whole 7 pounds 9 ounces!

You know I love an overcast day but even more than that I love endless quiet fields to play in. It got to a point where Sarah and I were wearing more mud on our feet than we were wearing boots, but it's all worth it.

We were also lucky to find a patch of sunflowers along the road. The owner of the property was more than generous about letting us take photos there. It's all part of my, "It'll never happen unless you ask" motto. Or you know, trespass, but luckily we didn't have to do that.

Congratulations to this mom and dad, who are going to be insanely loving and awesome parents!

Kadri Family

I've discussed family sessions before, there are some significant challenges working with kids that vary depending on their ages. You can't ask them to do something you want or need as a photographer, like you would an adult, and if they do it chances are they won't do it the way you hoped or hold it. That's why I like to take every session as a play date and get what you can. Embrace the funny, the weird and the spontaneity.

What I've never mentioned was the difference polite children can make. There is no shame on parents being laid in this post, I have a niece who is sweet as pie one day and won't have anything to do with you the next. Kids can be unpredictable. What I can say though, is the more you've instilled manners and kindness into your children the more likely they are to give it back.

I bring this up with the Kadri family's session because they stole a tiny piece of my heart this day, it's obvious the parents did their job and more with their children. Between picking flowers, chasing birds, Laia showing me how to dance and genuine sweetness, they were above and beyond.

Cheers to all parents, who struggle and work so much for the little 'wins'.

And this lovely family for the beautiful day!
