Carrie + Rob | Eloped

It was the smallest wedding I photographed this season, and one of my absolute favourites.

I booked Carrie and Rob's elopement at the Nelligan hotel in Montreal a few months ago without meeting them. They live in Toronto, and I'm told they wanted an event just for themselves, in a city that wasn't their own, followed by 3 weeks in Italy. I love weddings of all sizes, but I bet a lot of you would choose to do the same!

I arrived outside their suite to meet Carrie and grab a few shots in the room. Carrie handed me a glass of champagne so she had someone to cheers with (thank you for that)! We talked a bit so I could get to know her and off we went to the ceremony downstairs where Rob was waiting.

As the only person present, other than Michel the Officiant, I signed as their witness. This was exciting as I've never done that before, after 10 years of photographing weddings! Documents required that two witnesses be present, so the couple invited another witness from the hotel.

To be present for a ceremony condensed to only 2 people is beyond incredible. The only thing I can compare it to is witnessing an engagement. Emotions are so very real. The ceremony wasn't a show for a crowd of people, not to say wedding ceremonies aren't real, this was simply as real as it gets. Wow.

I'm so thrilled to have been a part of that moment in my own small way. Thank you C+R for having me and congratulations!

Emma + Marc | Married

I've known Marc since we were kids and Emma over the years when they became a couple, both Hudsonites like myself. They may not know but I had to take a minute when they asked me to be the photographer at their wedding - weddings are a lot of pressure after all and these are friends, you never want anything to mess with that. That moment passed quickly though. I wouldn't want anyone else photographing this day, if given the choice! So, of course I said yes! And I'm beyond thankful that they would trust me to get the job done.

Despite everything I woke up with a terrible cold, if it was any other day you would've found me under the covers with a cup of lemon and honey. Of course it had to happen this day of all days. But I got up, put a face on, and walked out the door. That's when I noticed a flat tire. So an Uber ride later, I was there! None of this had an affect (except to annoy me greatly) but it's fun little behind the scenes of a wedding vendor. Not always as perfect as it's pictured ;)

But the rest of the day was. The weather was on our side, the venue was gorgeous, everyone involved pulled their weight, E+M were excited, nervous and just... perfectly happy. Special thanks to Brad Davis for being a huge help to me on this wedding, and took over so I was able to party after a certain hour!

Marc is old and true friend of mine, as good as they come. When a member of your friends brings someone into the group, it might take a while to figure that person out. But anyone who meets Emma gets exactly what you see from the start - the most caring, sweet, hilarious, beautiful girl. For many years she hasn't been "Marc's girlfriend", she's been my friend, and I'm so happy they can now both be called Husband and Wife to each other!

Congrats E+M, thank you a thousand times over!
